Quarterly Report:

May 13, 2009

Yes, time again for what are unfortunately turning into quarterly web updates. Fortunately, we are working on numerous summer promos and will try and make an effort for shorter, more regular posts to the website once we begin rolling them out; which should be around late June, as soon as Matt and Ray get back from slacking off in Japan. (these may or may not include a points-based system used to win epic gaming items, numerous promos for our growing community, the addition of an ApGTV webcast on the site, and…paintball!)

Over the last several months we’ve made several policy changes to better streamline operations and have decided to close down on Tuesdays in order to allow time for updates. In the past we’ve been fairly lenient with allowing members and guests to run up tabs, which has not always been to our benefit, which is why we’ve recently implemented new policies requiring guests now having to pay for their time up front. Members may continue to run tabs until the end of their session, but tabs must be paid before leaving as all accounts with anything owing will now be locked. Also note that Apocalypse is available to rent out for birthdays and corporate events, and pricing details can be found in the sidebar link to the right.

In The Groove 2 dance arcade is now in the house!! The dance community has been demanding it and it has finally been delivered, so come out and bust a move! The original Pump It Up machine is still here as well.

It's...an Update!

February 4, 2009

Three months without a legitimate web post. What can we say, holidays make us lazy. Well, I guess for those that don't follow the forums we should catch up with some old news. In November we added the Exceed Pump it Up dance arcade machine to our lineup, so come get your dance on for $1/credit (pictured on forums). Also in November we closed the debate on whether or not to get licensed. Due to the opinions expressed on the forums and the fact that we would have to bar minors it was decided not to go ahead with the liquor license at this time, so minor's rejoice! And in response to the constant supplies of pizzas being delivered to Apocalypse, we've increased our food menu from the multitudes of chocolate bars, chips and snacks to include pizza pops, mini pizzas, burritos, and chimichangas; all $2!! In December we launched our first commercial which was filmed at the November lock-in (posted below) and shown on CityTV throughout the month and into January.

Apocalypse also sponsored a Counter-Strike Source team in December (#ApG) which we'll be sending to compete in all major LAN events as well as CAL and Cevo leagues. The team attended their first LAN event in Calgary, Lannihilation, in mid-January and went undefeated in CSS finishing with a 4-0 record, and winning each match by a minimum of 7 rounds!! ApG also decided to register for the TF2, COD4 FFA, and COD4 6v6 tourneys as well at Lannihilation, despite not specializing in any of them. Still, we took 1st in the COD4 6v6 tourney, 1st and 3rd in the COD4 FFA (Drew "DoubleD" Dawson took 1st, Justin ".DeMoNiC." took 3rd), and lost TF2 to a Cevo-P team. Overall an epic success with Apocalypse taking 3 of the 4 tourneys at the event, congrats!! Be sure to follow their progress/results on the forums and come meet/challenge the team at our local events/lock-ins, or just join a match in our new counter-strike public server (details posted below) where they can often be found.

Local events this month include a StarCraft 1v1 tourney on Saturday the 21st of Feb, as well as our monthly 15 hour lock-in starting Saturday the 28th of Feb. Note that all tourney winners will have the exclusive honor of having their name/picture immortalized in our new Hall of Champions located in the forums. Be sure to signup for both events asap at the front desk as spots fill up quickly, especially for our lock-ins!!! The demand to attend our legendary lock-ins has reached a point where we may start up a 2nd mid-month lock-in, in addition to our end of month lock-ins, possibly beginning in March! Head to the forums for full event details, but here are a few lock-in features and highlights:

- Meet fellow gamers from across the city and join the growing Apocalypse Community!
- Challenge ApG's own Counter-Strike Source Team
- Come play with/against a full house at Apocalypse > usually some good Left4Dead/TF2/CSS/COD4/StarCraft/WC3/or pretty much anything else you guys want to get going during the night!
- Take part in MMO Mayhem > everyone meets up in WoW (or any MMO) and generally causes 'mayhem'
- Play some Pump it Up, or RockBand2 on the 360
- Play some Risk, Chess, or start a Jenga Tournament! (as in the physical table top games, yes they actually still exist!)
- Relax in our lounge area (or pass out from the excitement if you're not drinking enough Bawls)
- Get featured on ApGTV > a new video feature we'll be adding to the website that will include event footage, games discussions, clan interviews, etc
- Free midnight pizza!

As for new games, aside from all the epic titles added in the fall, we've recently added World of Goo, Goldeneye Source (classic N64 remake!!), Flatout2 Racing, and Race07. Upcoming titles (depending on reviews and demand) include FEAR2:Project Origin(Feb 10), Dawn of War II(Feb 19), Empire: Total War(Mar 3), World in Conflict: Soviet Assault(Mar 3), Dragon Age: Origins(Mar 23). Check out the forums for a full list of games we're watching in 2009!!
